How do I find OTB tournaments?

I don't know where to find OTB tournaments. I've looked on the USCF website and filtered by state, but there are only like 6 within the next 6 months, and they are all really far from where I live. Are they just rare or am I doing something wrong?

A lot of affiliates aren't running rated events right now and many that are are likely not planning them out far enough on advance that the will post them on the US Chess site.

If you can't find any there, look at your state chess affiliate and any within a comfortable range from you. You can also look for more local affiliates, see if they have websites, and if not use the contact information there to see if they are aware of events.

Yeah, the timing might've limited the amount of tournaments.  It's 14 months later now, maybe the op is playing in some now.

I played in one in my city two weeks ago. We have another in May. Our local club meets weekly and usually has an event in progress.

Same for me. If you don't have a chess club around you, you'll quite possibly have to travel to play in tournaments.
