How do I get better?

Hello, I have been struggling in getting my rating up. How did you manage to push your rating up?

Your rating is more than twice as high as mine, so I don't think I will be much help.

I looked at one of your games, and you play too much like me, trying to trade all the pieces off the board rather than attack and develop. Your two main priorities should be to advance your attack effectively, and to develop faster than the other guy.

As implied I am guilty of the above more often than not.

I took AP bio in high school and failed it. I got a -1 on the ap exam.

How did I get my rating up? By starting very low. When I started playing chess I played on FICS. I lost pretty much every game for a year. My rating was about 600.

Through lots of pain and puzzles.... I started those on emerald chess but switched over to chesstempo...I got significantly better.

I achieved my goal. I can now beat anyone who knows nothing more than how the pieces move.
