How do I get my rapid rating to 1100?

In a month and a half,  my (rapid) rating climbed from 735 to the 1093 peak, and now it is 1048.  I have struggled to gain any rating ever since. I hope to reach 1100 and beyond this year, with my goal being 1300.

Any ideas on how to do so?

Review your games after each game, regardless you won/lost. Find your mistakes and ways to improve. Do puzzles, but don't grind on them. Study tactics and endgames bc people will do great at the start of the game but then mess up in the endgame as they don't know how to carry on.

All you have to do is play more games, do a LOT of puzzles and watch videos to hammer in the basics. this should get you to 1500 (it did for me)

don't waste time yet on opening study or endgame study besides learning your basic king and pawn endgames and opening principles/ideas of the openings you play now

don't memorize theory

just play and do puzzles

For me personally. I found learning ONE opening and mastering it is the best way to climb until 1500-1600. Then once you reach that level you can broaden your opening theory. But genuinely just master one opening. Thats how I reached 1900. Playing 1 opening. Thats how streamer tyler 1 reached 1900 too. It works but people are always worried since its not a common advice.

Learning one opening will help you understand basic principle of chess without wasting too much space in ur brain memorising 20 book moves. One disadvantage of this process is when your opponent plays something silly. Then in that case you have to improvise with good moves ie take the center with pawns, rooks in open files, castle, etc.

Trust the process and GL 👍

The Framework

  1. Learn core principles.

  2. Apply them in slow games.

  3. Analyze your decisions afterward.

This is the framework I use with students I coach.

Here are the core principles:

  • The Principle of Activity & Material: These are the two pillars of chess. You must constantly strive to increase the activity of your pieces while capturing material whenever it is freely given.

  • The Principle of the Least Active Piece: When you aren't sure what to play, identify your "worst" piece and improve its position. This is the secret to consistent positional play.

  • The Principle of Attack: Attacking moves are superior because they force the opponent to react. Prioritize calculating Forcing Moves (Checks, Captures, and Threats) before anything else.

  • Maximum Activity: Place your pieces as forward as possible to restrict your opponent.

  • Keeping the Tension: Do not release the tension (exchange pieces/pawns) unless it gives you a concrete advantage. Releasing tension often helps the opponent free their game.

  • The Principle of the Center: Centralization is the most efficient way to dominate the board.

  • Neutralization: If an opponent has an active piece on your territory, your immediate priority is to attack it, force it back, or exchange it.

  • The 3 Opening Tasks: 1) Develop pieces, 2) Castle, 3) Connect rooks.

  • Endgame Strategy: In the endgame, the logic changes: Activate your King, advance passed pawns, and attack opponent's weak pawns.
