How do I know my status?

Hey I just started playing, how do I find out my status ?

If you mean "My Status" listed in your profile then you just click the edit link and change it to whatever you want.

To be somewhat more serious, your current playing level is probably best described as "average". Can't go wrong with that.

Ok well I saw all of these numbers like 800 or 1600 and got confused. Also is there a tutorial section because the 800 computer is beating me really badly. It's very depressing.

Welcome to chess, it never ceases to have this effect on one.

Well the main thing is I don't have any actual strategy. I understand the object of the game and what all the pieces do but I can't think on how to lure the computer into making moves that I can exploit. Generally matches come down to me just moving piece around in order to not have them captured. Do I need to read about tactics before trying to play?

No no give us the list of moves. Use that chess board icon on top of the message editor. We are chess players, we understand you, we like seeing sequences of moves. We'll probably be able to determine what's going wrong and can give advice based on that. Give us one of your games and we'll take your soul :-)
