How do I permanently disable chat?

Is there a way to permanently disable chat without having to turn it off each game?

So many rude players on this site that I'd rather just leave it off entirely so I don't have to disable it each time or have to hear the heckling and rude remarks to remind me to turn it off again.

Thanks.

in 'live', click on settings, then 'play' at the top, and in there is a drop down box where you can opt to never chat

Go to your account and click on "live chess settings".

In the "game settings" part there a box "Auto-disable chat in all games (except w/ friends)". Click on it and enjoy !

Don't be surprised, the number of games that will be aborted by your opponents will increase.

People who abort games because of no chat aren't there to play chess anyway lol.  Not a big loss if you don't get to play them IMO.

Thanks for the information.

I don't care if people abort games on me. It's much better than having to see the heckling, mocking, and other rude remarks that seem to be increasing lately.

I play to have fun, enjoy some competition, and gradually improve my game. It really ruins it when it becomes a constant occurance to be made fun of via chat for making a blunder, or putting someone on the ropes and get berated for that. Just glad I can permenantely disable chat and not have to worry about it. :)

I sympathize with you Robert. Incredibly, many immature players out there. Even if you are winning, they find something dumb to say. It's amazing they get opponents. We should just avoid them, larely as a community. It doesn't matter if I am much stronger than them. Usually it's the u-2000 players. The better players say less.

Is there any way to turn off the chat in tournaments on the app? Sometimes the stupidity and vulgarity that pops up there actually causes brain cells to die. It's so easy to avoid on the website, I wish there were something similar for the app.
