You don't have to do all that just to play black. The video shows how to do a number of things, including how to play with black (at the end).
To play as Black try starting a new game and hitting the space bar. Arena will then play white.
This works for me in Arena 3.5
Didn't work for me (I'm using Arena 3.5.1 by the way). If I do that, the engine just plays against itself. And why doesn't Arena just include a button where you can just choose what side you'd like to play just like in any other program out there?

You must be pressing the spacebar and holding it down. If you do that, Arena will play for both white and black until you release the spacebar.
NigelNice's solution will work. Alternately, you can do as shown in this short video. Yes, I made another one. There is a "reverse chessboard" icon where you can toggle whether white or black is at the bottom and there is a menu selection to tell the program to "move now." It's quick and simple to play black with Arena.

There are 02 ways:
1. Hit F8 (Game data), and choose your starting side (Black->human)
2. Hit F12, then Ctrl+Z to force the computer move first (players' names are still wrong now). Make your move in the black side, and now you get your correct name and the desired side.
