Chess is a game of brain, we should not leave it.

It's not easy to quit chess. So it's best not to introduce chess to children. There are other board games like checkers, stratego, reversi, xiangqi and Go which gives the same benefits of chess.

I never quit

It's more like became less interested because i'm attached for another hobby for a moment and i never play it for a years, but after that i yearning for the game and return to play it.

May i know why you want to quit ? The reason to quit something sometimes never really fit into truth lies within. If it's not the right reason we deeply felt it'll never quit

I put too much time. I tried to reduce my time in chess. But Chess have too much to offer like challenges, books, puzzles, analysis of GM games, forums, etc. Chess is a time consuming hobby.

Shogi and Xiangqi should use attractive figurine and board to gain popularity.

Tell me if they look attractive.

Shogi

Xiangqi

cheap & portable, short cylindrical wooden pieces and a paper board.  used the same for chess in school.  chinese chess symbol on 1 side, international on the other.

Chinese chess and Xiangqi is same. Xiangqi is Romanisation of 象棋.

The game is quite similar to chess. Do you know if the origin is related to chess. It's too remarkable of the similarities.

GO should improve its present form too.

I have fun playing, studying, analysing. It takes too much of my free time as it's addictive. And i don't even have Chessbase. To all lower rated players, just have fun playing. Don't bother to study and use chess software.

Many of us tried to quit chess in the past. After quitting for a few days, few months, few years, most of the quitters return playing chess. Would it  be better for some of us to quit chess... For good. How can we quit... Permanently.

You need a chess addict's twelve-step group with regular meetings, possibly every day. The good news is that because of the nature of this addiction, these meetings can take place where alcohol is served. Good Scotch can help you forget chess.

Maybe it's a good idea to quit drinking coffee and start drinking Scotch wink.png

Ziryab

Coffee in the morning; Scotch at night. Chess all day. Of course, I don't have any addictions.

Yeah, you might as well not give something up until you get good at it!

Or, in Naka’s case, quit when you’re *only* good at it instead of excellent!

I recommend quitting cold turkey. Don’t try to ease out; that fails. If cold turkey fails you, try Wild Turkey.

What's good in Turkey? Other than Shawarma?
