How do you BRUTALLY punish Scholars Mate? It’s super annoying!!!

Well, for starters, you probably shouldn't be seeing this when you reach 900, let alone 1200. But in the event that you're serious (or other people see this), here is the answer:

There are plenty of openings as Black that immediately make it unviable, such as the French Defense (1...e6), the Scandinavian Defense (1...d4), or the French-Sicilian Defense (1...c5 [...] 2... e6, which is what I usually play as Black in response to 1. e4 anyway).

Generally speaking, though, the correct moves to halt it and gain an advantage are as follows:

I think there's also a really fast checkmate for Black if White blunders particularly badly, but I cannot recall it right now.
