Oh great; another 12 year old with too much testosterone in his hand!!

The rules of castling are simple. When to castle is the tougher question. Many of my students either castle too early, when they should be developing their pieces or too late when their King is under attack.

Teamwillow, you need to think before you post. You gave bad advice, and after the correct information had already been given. The board doesn't need your doltish hostility.

Grab that rook and fling it to the left, weeeeee the king will jump over it into the now castled position. It's easy, and it's fun, and you can do it when you're playing the chess, just grab that rook and fling it to the left, weeeee the king will jump over it.
Wrong.

Howard Johnson is rite! Garbhlahlaharururhah....

Here is the definition of castling, directly from the FIDE site: "This is a move of the king and either rook of the same colour along the player’s first rank, counting as a single move of the king and executed as follows: the king is transferred from its original square two squares towards the rook on its original square, then that rook is transferred to the square the king has just crossed."
Got that, Mr. Willow? THE KING MOVES FIRST!!!
can someone help me and tell me how you castle on live chess as i'm new to this and have no idea, would be much appreciated for any help given
thanks
