How do you encourage people at your school to play chess?

Hi, I was just wondering how I could get my friends and classmates to play and enjoy chess. Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Start a chess club?

I did no one expect 3 people want to join, out of 600 students... my school is really lazy in chess. sad.png

It’s a start. You never know where it could lead to or have a positive influence on somebody.

I was a jock in high school and regret not picking up chess then. I felt chess players were all nerds and now they’re doctors and nurses saving lives.

Ok, thanks.

Oh... at first my dad encouraged me to start chess but I didn't like chess. I am now playing chess because at first I played four player chess.

Hold a tournament to determine the school champion.

I really tried lol.

Only 6/7 people even knew what chess was 😂

Thanks for the suggestion though lol

not everyone plays chess and its such a rare thing in schools unless you guys have your own program going and traveling to tournaments all over the world. its hard to promote chess in a place where no players are really interested in learning it and luckily for me i have a chess class with at least 4 people who want to be there. its very incompetent to have something like that unless you dedicate yourself towards it and prove to many why its awesome to play

Ok, thanks

When these 6 people play in the tournament, others might spectate it and catch an interest too.

But they don't want to join... They just sometimes play chess

By the way, there was this kid on my class who thought he was SO good at chess and was SO confident. He joined chess.com. His rating was 300. It was hilarious just thought I'd share this.

eh don't worry its nothing to be laughing about much and he shouldn't be embarrassed if he was a 300, i was once 900 and now i am over 2200 which is good achievement in progress. that kid kind of reminds me how i was when i joined except i didnt care much and mostly played on a actual bored but then i just started caring and well here i am now alive having fun

When did you start playing chess? How did you improve?

Jamiya2010

you play with your friend in break time - between classes. - people will gather around and look.

PlayByDay

What would the purpose of getting your class and school mates into chess be? Do you want to have more people to play during recess, do you want to make everyone like chess, do you want to show your skill and impress people? Unlike some kind of Hollywood High School Musical-esque story, most people would probably not care about chess for more than a week or two. So get a club going, maybe include other classical board games to get more people.
