How do you enter the Chess world championship?

Thank you for that.  So there is a candidates tournament to play the world champion and the world champion automatically gets to defend the trophy in the final.  But there are various qualifing tournaments to get to the candidates tournament. 

A long way to go for me yet then!  I might settle at the moment for just joining a local chess club and playing in local chess leagues! 

Don't give up the dream. How does this sound: "World Chess Champion, BLOWERD!"

beat little sis>papa>uncle>school champ>club champ>city champ>county/state champ>...if you can then be the national champion, you may begin dreaming about qualifying for the WC cycle.

This makes virtually all of us just fans <clap clap>.

 2 semi final defeats in 1994 and 1995 is the best I can manage for that!

Yes it does depend. The US championship always sent a couple to the Interzonal, but not all national championships do of course.

OK 21 months after creating this thread, I have now joined a local chess club! 

 haha readin this made me feel like i'm a good player cause the only thing I haven't done yet on that list is beat my state's champion
