How do you improve your pawn game?

When it comes to pawn-movement I follow some very basic rule-of-thumb-rules and think I get along quite okay in this regard.

At least I haven't felt like I lost my games because of pawn-structure problems for quite some time.

Mostly I just keep the pawns back and only move them if I feel it necessary to stop opponents pawns. I do not really push them unless i'm completely happy with the coordination of my other pieces and can use the king to supplement them.

If you keep them back, you always have something in your hands to stop advancing enemy-pawns and it is easier to defend them. Also having your pawns being able to defend your pieces in my book is much better than your pieces having to defend your pawns.

J Young. Play SLOW games and act as though youre taking a test and its very important that you get it right. Please read those books first by the way. Don't play too much blitz. Act like your games are gonna matter and compare your pawn decisions with stuff you get from those books. Back to back, remember?

Will do. I started playing 30 minute Standard games in lieu of 15 minute games because I need to learn more than win. The winning will come naturally once I have learned. 30 minute games give me the time I need to really analyze the position and decide what to do. With 15 minute games I was finding myself making rushed moves and not taking the time to ask why I was making certain moves. So definitely slowing things down. Concentrate grasshoppa, concentrate.
