Hi
How do you improve your positional play?

Nimzowitsch - My System remains the best resource for positional play in existence.
Not in the opinion of many Chess Experts. But, it has some good points. His complaints about how his genius was wrongfully treated are pitiful.

Deviate at some point in the opening. Your superior opening preparation will lead to a superior position. Then you squeeze your advantage. This is the hard part. Sometimes you play slow, sometimes you must capitalize immediately. Continue applying pressure until your opponent is forced to make concessions, but be careful of tactical shots. They're always tricky, tricky, tricky. Trying to liquidate through forced exchanges. Then take advantage of that concession, forcing your opponent to suffer longer, longer, longer, until they desperately seek a solution. At this moment, you have been dominating the whole game, and you are completely winning. After a few diligent moves, you will suffocate your opponent and he will resign. But you throw it, you threw the whole game!!!

i just keep playing OTB, maybe do what others say studying openings, middlegames, endgames, etc and try to think creative like players such as So finding diverse opportunities in your own games which can aid in even giving a bigger advantage later on so who knows lol
on a serious note.. books are best way to improve ur positional skills
For me personally Jeremy Silman s how to reassess ur chess has made a huge boost in my positional skills...

No need to improve positional skills just attack but if you want to improve look at top level games to see the traditional manuevers in some openings. Etc. Ruby lopeZ nc3 ne2 ng3 or nbd2 nf1

Why do you claim that?

Well... if you check his profile, IHaveTHEChessSkill has gained his rating at Bullet chess. His Daily rating (the variant in which you actually have time to think) is only 1300-odd.
So when he says "no need for positional skills, just attack" what he means is "if you are playing a variant in which there is no time to think, then don't think, just move".
Within that context, he's correct.
Thanks. I think I'll have a punt at Weapons of Chess. My guess is I'll find I've picked up some of it anyway but there is no harm in working through the basics in a systematic manner before moving on to something more advanced. Knuckle dragging is a nice description, I tried My System and gave up after reading the first chapter 3 times and dipping into others. I know it's a classic but I'll add it to the knuckle dragging box if I may. Mentally, after a day at the office, I prefer a bit more spoon feeding.
