Improve your thinking for the opponent by switching the board around for solving tactical problems. Go through the games of petrosian where he nullifies his opponent's play. Stop thinking just about yourself:)

I see one of my main flaws is that I don't pay attention to what my opponent is cooking up. I look for immediate checks and captures and whst not but I don't go deep into whst the enemy is doing. How can I improve? What do you do?
