The Giuco Piano or four knights, but the four knights is pretty boring. You can try the Scotch too. Not my personal choice (unless if white plays 1.a3 and I'm effectively playing the white side of a king pawn game as black) despite usually playing for d4/d5 breaks but it's an easy one to learn and execute.
How does someone improve in chess?

1. Play a lot of games
2. Study firstly endgames, and
3.Learn the main ideas of an opening and play only this (not variations, ideas)
4.By tactics you might improve fastly ! Tactics appear in every game, but endgames are also important and I think more important becasue most games are lost or won a cause of a well/bad played endgame

I may have to scrounge up the money to buy a year's worth of premium membership. This site has more resources than a person could exhaust in a lifetime, almost! The chess mentor and the videos are especially good.
In my opinion you shouldnt focus your efforts in the opening. After a dozen moves your playing in the dark. Studying openings is for the more advanced of players. You should check out some videos on space, time, force, and pawn structure. The elements that direct a game! Hope this helps
Very good advice, when I started playing i didn't even know what the openings were called, I just played what looked like reasonable moves. After the game I looked up the opening to see where I had gone wrong
and that way gradually learned which lines I liked and which to avoid.
