Under FIDE rules it would be a win for the side with K+N because if play continued a mate would have been possible.
Under USCF rules a helpmate situation is not allowed to be considered, so if the side who timed out could have played a move which would have defeated the "smother" it would be a draw. If not, I think it would also be a win for the K+N.
This site uses a simple piece count to determine. So K+N is always a draw on timeout.
what if one side is about to perform a smothered mate with only king and knight ,but before that the other sides time run out.normally it is a draw cause unsufficient material ,but here the side can mate cause of other pieces blocking the enemy king.So when exactly does timeout vs unsufficient material draw occur?
