#131 lmfao.
How good is the Backyard Professor?

Why did he quit. He seemed so self-assured in his chess related ignorance...
He got a lot of feedback. I'm guessing more than half of it was negative. Then he played in a tournament and probably lost to kids under 10 and got a 3 digit rating. I mean, many of us have lost to kids, but it may have been a shock to him to realize just how much of a beginner he really was even after all the learning he thought he'd done.
Yea, I guess being not open to criticism is a safe way for staying a beginner...

The BYP is back and has improved a lot during these years of absence.
Haters gonna hate, but now he is well on his way toward master I'd say.

Nope. He hasn't improved.
No one hates Kerry Shirts. He's too nice a guy. But, that doesn't mean his teaching can be endorsed. It cannot.

Rumors says he will 12-0 Carlsen.
Anyone can achieve that as long as you select the right age in the play Magnus app..
When i was a total beginner at chess, before i signed up on this site, i actually watched a few BYP videos. I had no idea that he was i total beginner himself. I remember the videos as enthusiastic and non boring, but i didn't recall learning something or improving. Now i know why.

Good news, he came back and is making videos on youtube again! I agree that they are not good for learning but I watch them because they are entertaining and funny.

And suddenly I'm reminded of politics.

And suddenly I'm reminded of politics.
Indeed. And the death of expertise. http://historynotebook.blogspot.com/2017/04/expertise.html

He mentioned that Silman sent him his book after watching the BYP on youtube.
He does help some newer players, one of the comments on his video:
Thank you professor I'm from mexico and I teached my 13 year son tanks to you and he is 17 years old right now and he is the best of his highschool and yesterday I finally bet him after a two years of losing with him because I'm improving my game watching your videos

Yes but no. BYP's rating has been confirmed to be over 9000.

Ah I thought he was much much higher, he says he is about 2250 to 2300 somewhere I think.
I have watched every single one of his videos you are lieing he has never claimed to be that high.
He has mentioned Jeremy Silmans rating which is some where that high becuase he is a IM.
Yes I knew I saw it somewhere. It says he is 2250-2300 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5Qh7XHHu-s
he said I am not there yet I am gonna show you my journey to reach that level...

Today in a thirty minute video the Backyard Professor was in a bit of a conundrum when he was completely flabbergasted for seventeen of those minutes by the mandatory recapture knight takes knight, a forcing move that you would have had to have seen at least seven moves in advance or you wouldn't have sacked that dangit man pawn in the first place. Can you even believe . . . You must be aware what your bishop is doing here easy so you can rachet up the serious maneuvering oh i'm bored this is stupid i don't care if i win or lose always play for the win like my hero ben feingold so can't just say i'll swap that's the thing about the endgame it's quite deception nuance close you haaaavvvvveee tooooo loooooook at every piece and what they are doing and what square are they connecting to and where is your king in the endgame there is a lot less pieces but a lot more looking this is for me so so so forgive me if i'm overdoing it i'm overdoing it on purpose . . . what we have to do in the endgame be aware be aware endgaming is different it's very exciting extremely challenging what would you as WHITE!!? now that white has done this then what would you do as BLACK!! You can't just give him a passed pawn!! It takes years to learn the nuances, ya.
give the link please of today vid

He has recently acquired the Yusupov chess course books. Will they help him? I'm not sure if he's quite ready for those, yet. He still needs lots and lots of tactics practice.
Imagine if he analyzed the game afterwards with an experienced player. He might say "I was way ahead in development here so I felt confident about my position" and then the experienced tournament player counts 3 vs 2 and points out the number 3 is larger than the number 2... lol
