It's not that it's hard to understand. It requires alot of patience to go through the whole book, but it'll definitely improve your game.
How hard is nimzo`s "my system" to understand?

but I'm not calling you stupid for thinking it's hard to understand because you don't understand the words or the complicated positions.

oh yea, highly recommended. it goes from the most basic of concepts all the way up to the hard stuff. i really love it.

I felt that that book messed up my game for a long time. I wound up taking my copy and throwing it away in a field. To me, it was like the chess version of Neitzsche, difficult to understand. But I hear that the new version has better text and examples, and I've wanted to see a copy of it, just to see if my opinion would change. And I will say this: on this site, I've seen @20 positive reviews for the book for every negative one, so it's got to be helpful to some players; just not me.

It has been dubunked and refuted, and will simply hurt your chess. See, e.g., his claims on "overprotection."
Silman's "How to Reassess Your Chess" has replaced it as the appropriate layman's guide to chess strategy.

The troll is strong in this one.
Any way, if you get one of the newer editions, it's not all that hard to understand, and the level isn't all that high once the writing and analysis gets translated into "human" from the original "Nimzowitsch."
But there is some truth to the idea that it's not as essential as it once was. Lots of good chess teachers have laid out systematic approaches to strategy now, and many of them are at least as good as "My System" at this.
I think "Chess Strategy for Club Players" by Herman Grooten would be an excellent place to look, if you didn't find Nimzowitch all that agreeable.
i know this is considered a classic..... so please refrain from bowing down and worshipping it in this thread.... That being said... how hard is the book to understand? is it considered difficult because of expansive vocabulary or complex variations? i`m planning on getting this book to help with my positional play... but i don`t want to get the book and have it seem as cryptic as the kjv of the bible...... lmao (i got nothing against the bible potential flamers! :D) sorry for the crappy chunked txt of this post.... im writing this from an lg rumor 2! XD
