How is it possible to play chess faster then the mouse speed?

As mentioned, 'premove' (settings option) allows you to do stuff pretty much instantly in anticipation of your opponent's likely move.  (eg. 'premove' all takebacks is safe as it won't work if they ignore a piece/pawn capture, but saves you some time).

ps.  Also, I think some players CHEAT (they think during their opponent's time).  An honest player would stop concentrating on the game when it was their opponent's turn.

20 month old thread. Bumped.

It can't just be premove, since many premoves would be wrong if the player using premove guessed his opponent's move incorrectly...there's no time to react to cancel the premove if you see the opponent move differently than you expected. Yet, I see players reacting directly to opponents' moves instantaneously for a good 15 moves straight. Hard to believe they're that lucky.

Can you move using the keyboard, too?

I would think a telecom lord would already know.

Trying to observe some top games here at chess.com and I see many 1 min games. How do players play so fast and make no mistake because of the mouse/pointer? It is ok to understand that great chess minds can think extremely fast and find accurate moves in very short time but this is not only about thinking or pondering, it is a matter of your mouse speed? Shortest move that I can do (let's say a simple pawn move) takes at least 0.5 seconds. However, in some games, a player move his bishop from corner to the other corner in 0.1 seconds. How is it possible? Is there something I am missing? I was wondering about that subject about 10 years ago when I was playing online chess at yahoo and I am still looking for an answer. Thanks to everybody who share their ideas.

You Can't Handle The Truth! In fact 99% of the so called pros on this site can't either. How do I know? I am ranked International Grand Master. And have been for 19 years. Yet more importantly than that there is a secret organization amongst the top online players in the world. And we have all been sworn to secrecy by the Codes of our Order. We all use a program to play for us. If you do not see the chess game in person LIVE with you actually watching the person physically play then do not believe that a person is making the moves! Even the owners of this website will not want you to know this because they are members of our Order. And since I am blowing the whistle on all of it they will soon delete this post and account, They do not want you to know that all of us so called pros are using a chess program. And since we are protected due to the amount of money we pay for that protection we never get banned for using it like those that discover and try using the free version on this site. However, those of us that are official Members of the organization: we will never be or get banned for using it. Any chess website that scans and or looks beyond the processes happening within and through the browser will easily spot the free version of the program running in the background. Yet the versions we use are 100% undetectable by any program. The reason for this is we are the ones that create and monitor the usages of ALL the security programs that detect 3rd party software for cheating in chess. And we simply mask, blind, or blank out each registered user and their program so that when the scans are taking place we are never detected no matter what speed settings, or depths of move analysis we are using within the matches. All of the 16 online chess websites we monitor, and control the security of each of them. Take Stockfish for example: praised as being the best chess program to date. Yet the versions available to the public are all capped. Yet those of us that are paid members of this organization: we all use the uncapped versions of that program that are unavailable to the mainstream public. Yet the uncapped versions are not called "Stockfish". Nevertheless, the truth as it is the majority can't handle and won't want to believe. And all the so-called pros and members of this organization masking as pros will be furious about what I am disclosing to you here. They will be glad to know I have not listed all of them here on this website. I will, however, be listing every paid member elsewhere, along with every site we/they control. Can you handle the truth? I doubt it! Yet there it is the truth of it in all its bare nudity: stripped of lies and all deceptions. If you want to know anything else feel free to contact me while I am still reachable. Just search for the Composer that created a music album called "Memories of Time"; find him, and you'll find me.

I used to have an iPad, but it was stolen a few years ago. If you're going to play 5 minute games or less, imho, you need to have a touch screen. You simply can't keep up with a mouse.

ok everybody wait another 5 years to post here again

I think its faster if you play in mobile/tablet

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqS4A7FffB8&t=677s, this is of course a novelty but to each his own. There is no right answer but I have watched another stream where hikaru was playing a match with Duhless( danny Dubov) and Dubov was playing on a mobile and both he and Naka were critical of how slow he was .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYFXH0VWNkk&t=9988s  I saw a post #28 said thinking during your opponents time is cheating. I hope he's trolling but if he's not then 1795 bullet is impressive for someone who ponders the fine tuned universe while there opponent is premoving. i mean it's it's god like. Just imagine how strong he would be if he cheated and anticipated his opponents plans I mean wow. PS. I stumbled into this thread while researching the pros and cons of playing with a keyboard instead of a mouse ect.

sftac

It helps if you know your opponent's plan (but, is mind reading allowed here?).  Else, how do the top players manage against 'the amateur mind', who make pretty good moves but often go offtrack enough of the time to make nonsense of the opponent's premoves.

(I still think it's cheating to think during your opponent's move.)

You can use 2d aim to move faster with your mouse
