How long it takes to get to 1000 rating

Can anyone put what rating you started at and how long it took you to get to 1000? I started around 300 and have been playing for a year and a half now. Just got to 750 yesterday and am working my way up to 1000.

what is the name of the system by which points are calculated in the game? can you rely on it in real life?
