How long it takes to your engine?

Houdini_15a_w32 finds the M6 it after 2-4 minutes which I think is a bit unacceptable since black has about 40 possible moves and white about 15 replays... Also even after I make the move myself to help him, it takes a while even then.

Can anyone test this with other engines as well?

Fritz 13 (single core) finds the move right away and sets it to the number 1 move, after about 5 seconds finds a variant that is mate in 13 and after about 9 seconds finds the mate in 8. It then proceeds to find the other 3 forced mate lines and after about a minute stops analyzing completely.

Stockfish DD64 finds a forced mate in 7 (that Fritz didn't find at all) in less than a second.

I am using an laptop i5 2450M cpu with 6gb of ram with the fritz gui running under wine in arch linux.

Thanks for the test though, I have never used stockfish but I just set it as my new mainengine... What a difference! (in all fairness though, my fritz is single core and I assume stockfish is using all the cores)

Stockfish take about 4 minutes to find it, I use it on my android device.

Shedder Classic 4.  Takes 1 second to figure the M6.  I use it in my ordinary laptop.  Cheers.

My houdini thought a there were a few different mate in 7s, and took 15 seconds to rate Rg5 as the best with a mate in 6.

Cleared hash and tried it again it took 55 seconds.

Tried a 3rd time and it took 20 seconds.  Interesting.  I guess it depends on which moves it tries to look at first.

Hey waffllemaster.  Not sure what the Hash is for but I did cleared it in Shredder and the analysis takes 30 seconds, starting from Hash 0% up to 90%, to find M6 with Rg5.  Yet another try, cleared the Hash then M6 in 6 seconds (Hash 30%). What is this Hash, what does it do?  Cheers.

It's like short term memory so the engine doesn't look at the same things twice.

If you let it find the mate in 6, stop the analysis, go eat a sandwich, come back to your computer and run it again, it should find it more or less instantly (because it remembers).  If you close the program and open it again (or clear the hash) it wont remember.

If you do a lot of analysis (e.g. for every position in a game) then after you reach move 40 it won't remember it's calculations for move 10 (for example).

@ waffllemaster.  Thank you.
