"WOULD IT BE TO MUCH TO ASK THAT THEY STOP IGNORING THESE THREADS?"                       Its not the threads they're ignoring, Its YOU!    To get an answer you have to have 20 friends.  Lets go, take a walk, look around!Yell  Stop playing that blitz/bullet crap.

Don't change it.  It's fine as it is.  Major boo for dropping the ability to upload photos.  It's why I don't go to forums that require an external storage location for photos.  It's one more area and another password I have to maintain.  It becomes a two-step process, having to login into both places to put up a photo of something, especially when I see something I want to share, and I don't know what it is so I can find an image online to link to.

You can still upload photos in these forums. What is it that you can't do?

notmtwain, I mean in the new version, you can't upload photos, only link to them.  Read what it says about removed features in v3.

It sounds like they're dedicated to making this the most boring site ever. One of the main attractions of this site, other than chess--which you can do on a lot of sites--is the social interacting in an extended community. Part of this is enhanced by some of the kookier aspects of the forums. It's bad enough that they've jammed up the music/video embedding feature. Further developments in that direction would only make the site a big yawn.

Linked photos (in V3) show up fine, so while uploading to imgur or some such will add a bit of a hassle, enhancing the content will be still possible.

DrSpudnik

I think some people linked photos in old threads and you can go through them and see all the blank spaces once the link no longer links to anything.

Every year we get a little less for our money...

I though that they were only going to delete the albums in profiles.

But deleting all the uploaded images and the abbility to upload just makes the forums worse.

DrSpudnik

Apparently, that's the best idea they could come up with.

It's like being at work and your boss announces something stupid and all you can do is roll your eyes and wait to see how long it will take until prince numbskull changes his mind and undoes the latest stroke of genius.

Don´t worry, they distracted us by destroying the ratings system to make sure that everybody forgets about the V3 thing.

In any case V3 is coming sometime in June, they´ll probably fix something by then.

V3 sounds like a downgrade.

Checking the original announcement and what I have read now, sure it looks like that:

Are there new features included?

From a web-user’s point of view, there are several new features that are waiting for V3 to be in place so we can get them in front of you, but for the most part, no. Our initial push is to get all existing features available in V3. Mind you, many of the interface improvements themselves may seem almost “new-feature” good. And we do have a variety of gorgeous, high-res visual Themes that will be available as soon as V3 launches.

On the other hand, if you’re an app user, V3 means a lot of new functionality, as we’ve already seen with Android. Messages, Friend profiles, Game Archive, Articles, Forums and Lessons (Chess Mentor): All of this and more is available in our V3 apps for Android and (soon) iOS.

Will any features be removed?

Yes. One of the goals of this project is to make Chess.com a leaner, more elegant site, with less old (and mostly unused) code to maintain as we move forward. So, with much deliberation and careful attention to our web-traffic analytics, we made some cuts: Photos, Chessopedia, Endless Quiz, Downloads, “Local” club & event directories, and Shop Online.

Theme customization isn’t going away, but it is dramatically simplified (see below).

If they make it hard to load pics, I'll be saying goodbye to you all. Cry

Don't worry Kay, there's always a workaround. Wink

I'm looking into this. But honestly, can you tell me why it's a big deal? I mean, almost every image is already hosted online :) People post images already found online. It's just a hassle to find an image, download it, re-upload it. Why not just link to it? Plus, there are companies that are 100% focused on handling image uploads. (Like imgur.com or a billion other ones.) It's just extra resources, development time, and hassle for us to re-create that.

So, help me understand? Thanks!

Erik. Please look at my "Who am I" thread and tell me how I will do that. Sorry, but it's not possible, as I create those images myself.

well, what about personal images? sometimes people want to upload personal pics that aren't on imgr or tiny grab.. I kind of like how forums and content works with images :)

erik

ah, you misunderstand!

you will still see the images! you won't see "www.whatever.com/monkey.jpg", you'll see the actual image. we just won't be hosting it.

as for image linked by bandwidth theif.... that is so old school. nobody does that anymore. everyone understands that images float around the interwebs.

here is an example of an image hosted somewhere else, and when you choose "external URL" (this image is on imgur):
