How many of you play with the chat feature disabled and why do you do it?

As long as the opponent is good , i will not disable the chat.

Lampman

I do not disable the chat feature.

I will either write hello and good luck when playing somebody. If they respond they respond if they don't they don't. I understand that some people like to concentrate and not chat, which is totally down to the player and not anti-social at all. If I haven't written hello and good luck, then I will certainly write good game, well played, whether I have won or lost.

If a member was being rude to me, I would enjoy beating them, then report them or if I was going to lose, report them before the game is lost :-)

I have met few players rude enough to trash talk in the middle of a game- so I never disable the chat. It's a good filter anyhow, if I do find someone rude and without manners I just add him to my blocked players list. If the person is agreeable then we can have a nice post mortem or a pleasent comment after the game. So you see leaving the chat on for me is always a WIN-WIN situation.

You don't want to know the answer to that.

Can you whisper it then?

Backbone  That is all.

This is from the link you shared : This word is normally used among British teenagers from a poorer back ground. The richer or middle class British teen will some times use it in a sentence to make fun of poorer teens or chavs .

It doesn't look so good for the person who uses it either.

The user of any slang insult usually comes across as a prick.

Indeed.

So because I do not pay for this site I am more likely to be discourteous? I resent this accusation.

I have never come cross a rude opponent in correspondence chess here, and have never played an opponent who said any more than "gl" or "gg" in my limited experience of live chess.

Was it Ozzie?

Ahh, I get it.  He's one of those guys who resents that some women have standards.  I run into that type sometimes.  Usually the guy in question isn't exactly a hottie by anyone's definition so there's not ever any real loss.  thanks Janus!

It was!   Surprised

theoreticalboy

I don't, but I do tend to ignore people.  I'm usually doing a number of things as it is, so I don't like to add the task of engaging in mere pleasantries.

And, whilst I disapprove of the sentiment, I have to say I'm glad someone reacquianted me with the fantastic term 'minger.'

But how do you know that?  Do you think people always use their own pictures?  Believe it or not, sometimes people misrepresent themselves on the internet!

Like me, for instance.  That's not really my mask.  I fooled you all by wearing someone else's! Cool

I disable chat because nobody has ever said one thing that I did not wish that I had missed altogether.

Why you should not disable chat:

1) Disabling chat steals the opportunity for your opponent to say gg.

2) If your opponent is rude/insults during the game, laugh in his face and insult him back.

3) If your opponent wins the game, and then insults you... Accuse him of using rybka or having a friend help him, nothing pisses a legit player off more than being accused of cheating.

4) If you win the game, and your opponent insults you... Try to understand, he just lost a game, laugh in his face. He's probably too young anyway. The insult should be a compliment of how well you defeated him.

5) If your opponent wins VIA time, and clearly doesn't have a better position/points--it is NOT a gg, if someone says gg here, you have the right to say bg!

---- Why do all this ?? Why bother??? ----

Because throughout your whole life, you will meet rude people where-ever you go. What you seldom realize is, even these rude people are sometimes nice people.

And I've had insult/yelling with people that turned out to be friends later on, simply because they interacted with me. This never happens with someone who has been completely silent with me. The silence is worse.

I would never disable the chat. I find people who have the need to insult me quite amusing. I treat them like pets. Don't feed them and they die Laughing.

Doesn't matter where I play, I always thank my opponent after the game. It's good manners and taking that away is.... well in my opinion, disrespectful. And I've had some nice conversations in another site. I actually don't like the guys who don't want to talk, but that's my problem. Everybody has their own.

PS. I dislike the comment "gg". A proper thank you isn't that hard..... oh and "ty" is even worse than "gg".

This is the way you treat your pets?

Not my pets, no. But internet trolls are kinda like pets to me. And when you don't feed a troll, it dies.... or you could just whack it with a shovel.
