can you bench 300 pounds? thats very strong for normal people but weak for professionals, yet its still like an 85th percentile bench.
by comparison a 2000 elo player is like the 95th percentile. Sure a 2000 is a piranha in a shark tank compared to professionals who are in the 99.2-99.7th percentile , but you are awesome . in a tournament hall, you are at least stronger of 19 of 20 people there and probably fairly well known by many at the local level.
in some countries, where the top player may be a 2300 FM/IM person, the 2000 is a candidate for board 4 in the olympiad. Some U.S states, you are probably the strongest player there!
Bah, the story I told above is not all there is, of course. No sane IM would expect to win 10-0 against a 2000+ player, and, of course, I collected a few draws and wins against Masters, and even a draw against a GM. It's hard to tell the whole truth, when, in reality, they come rare to us, and you'll be lucky if, in real life, you play more than 5 FM-IM and GM together in a year.
