How many people think that; Chess is just a Total Waste of Time in Life!

Just thought of another question:  If you made up a list of "time-wasters," in terms of how "bad" they are, where would chess rank?

(Say, for example, someone spent time thinking up an egregiously dreadful pun like "waisting" to describe the delicious pies of an obviously lovely, charming, sweet mother-in-law ... where would that rank? )

Chess just like anything else has the potential to be a 'waste of time' or not depending on your relationship to the game. The majority of people tend to play chess for reasons tied to the ego and so they take a loss in chess as a personal attack and those I would say, for the most part waste their time with chess. For those few that enjoy the game due to its complexity and the fun aspects, the creative aspects, aren't wasting their time anymore than someone who competes in the Olympics is wasting their time. 

Anyway, just depends on your relationship with the game in my opinion.

I'd concentrate on getting laid more often.

Last night i made a belt only with clocks i found at my house while playing chess, it was a waist of time! GET IT? A WAIST OF TIME!

its a waste of time? well, im wasting it in a better way than the average person is,  people consider im smarter for just liking chess, while the average teenager is playing videogames on his free time, I cant, even if i tried, or my dad had the money, I tend to concentrate very deeply on what im doing, be it doing a complex project on the computer or playing with a cat, so if only if i play videogames or even flash games that dont stimulate me to think deeply like chess, after 10 or 15 minutes i get so lost i can barely function or think, doing so also makes me feel very unconfortable, its very weird, because a couple of years ago i had no sign of this whatsoever, so I decided to spend my free time playing chess and reading books that will give me an upperhand later in life (real estate, basic physiology, marketing, psychology, sociology and a long etc) anyway i kind of liked doing all that a lot since i was a little kid

Drinking alcohol is a waste of time. You get drunk and fall asleep. That sleeping time could be spent on chess.

More individuals are playing internet amusements, for example, Counter Strike and Massive online multiplayer diversions hours consistently without profiting or considering. In any event chess makes you compute and enhance your mind.

Chess is just another way of killing time.  I guess a trophy, or some recognition and fame could help some us feel like we are killing time in a relevant way.

The problem is: chess is addictive then you tend to give up other things just to have more time to play chess.

Yeah games are a waste of time.  Why buy video games?  Why play football?  Total waste of time.  Why try and get enjoyment out of something you like to do?  The idiocy!

I multitask, too ... make a move ... wait ... go to a forum ... post some nonsense ... make another move ... go to another forum .... post --- sounds like an afternoon well spent!  Right?
