Theoreticalboy, I have read your urgent plea, and I can help. Like Carlsen and Kasparov, we have found each other. I am there for you. There are many many low-rated players who can't play chess worth a damn, but does that mean they can't teach? Of course not, "those who can, do, those who can't, teach" but I can't and I can't teach and I can't teach that to you and that's the core of my teaching and I suspect you are unteachable anyway. CONFUSED!? Ha! There! You see, we've already begun... think of me as a guide -- take my hand, take it... ahaha...you see, I snatch my hand away, then I place my hand along my nose creating a crafty block that defeats you from poking me in the eyes, then I fluff my hair at you disrespectfully and say "wubbwubbwubbwubb" ... you see how it is?  The mountaintop is up there, yes, look at it. And we are down here on the valley floor. And we are going to stay down here, where it's comfortable. Do you want to soar with the eagles? DO YOU? Eagles are only recently off the endangered species list. Of course you don't want to be an eagle and I can make sure you never turn into an eagle. Think how terrifying it would be if you suddenly turned into an eagle. Which isn't really possible unless you take lots of peyote LOTS OF IT... but perhaps I've strayed into areas of the teaching you are not yet ready for... Be calm, be still, I know you are eager to get started but there is time -- there is time -- there is always time and that is the first lesson -- the way of the not-grandmaster, is not a hurried path, it is more like a maze, but whereas in an ordinary maze you become lost, in this maze you find yourself... right back where you started! Get it? You thought I'd say "You find yourself (full stop)" but I didn't, I was just making a play on words, I paused a little and then kept going, creating the phrase  "You find yourself right back where you started!" Still lost In the maze! Come on, that's really clever. And there's more where that came from.

Wow! That post is in that fuzzy line, where you are either witnessing genius, or you need a psychiatrist! Nice post!Laughing

I'm in a dispute with my ex-landlord right now because my cat kept peeing on the carpet :(

He wants me to pay the entire cost of recarpeting and re-linoleuming the entire apartment. I'm willing to pay for the carpet but not the linoleum, and only the proration of how many useful years the carpet would be expected to have in it based on installation date.

So my question to you, chess.com, is whether or not re-linoleuming is a valid word?

No, I believe "replacing the linoleum" is the correct term.  "Linoleum" is not a verb.

Agreed -- under no circumstances is it acceptable to verbicize a noun like that.

Lol-my current hero!

 LOL... my vote is genious!

I vote it doesn't matter; the "think how terrifying it would be if you suddenly turned into an eagle" line surely takes the prize for the month.

How to not become a GM:

Don't get born in Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, southern India or Iceland.
Don't learn chess at an early age
Don't fall in love with mathematical games Don't study chess 2 hours a day from the age of 5 Don't play chess in your spare time, and don't make spare time to play chess Don't give up college to play chess Don't read chess books Don't give up videogames Don't give up your social life for chess Don't play online chess til 5am the next day Don't stop posting useless tripe on chess.com's forae.

Yes. We do need to put a stop to this nonsense called scholastic chess. I am an educator, so I know what I am talking about. In my own state, of all things, a young boy just set a new record for being the youngest-ever Chess Master in the United States.

My topic on this tragic event can be found here - http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/if-a-9-year-old-can-become-a-chessmaster-then

A 9-year-old California boy has become the youngest-ever chess "master" in the United States.

Samuel Sevian, of Santa Clara, earned the title after a match in San Francisco.

The United States Chess Federation, the governing body of competitive chess, gave him a rating of 2,201 after the Dec. 11 match. A rating of 2,200 qualifies a player as a "national master."

Samuel achieved the rating at the age of 9 years, 11 months and 15 days, according to the The San Jose Mercury News.

Debatable. If you can whup 'em drunk, you can whup 'em sober. I recommend a lobotomy.

I suppose an early death would be helpful. Technically, in spite of your best efforts, there's always a remote chance you might become a GM up until you die. I'm not aware of any reports of chess skill improvement after death.

not sure about this.  if you can wait three moves before eating your opponents brains you will win most games on time.
