How old were you when you started playing chess?

I played about once every 2 yrs since I was 10.  I actually started really playing last year a month before my 27th birthday, and now I'm hooked, at least 1 game/day!

I started playing when I was 6-7 years old.

33 this past summer

I started playing seriously at 41. The about to be ex-wife got tired of me pestering her to play and told me to look up a site on the web. The about to be new wife founded her high schools chess club and whips me easily. I often plead that she is younger than I am and I've just had a "Seniors Moment".

I was 23 when I started playing. In other words, this past January 2008.

I was 6 years old.The basic I learn by watching other people.

Really?  I discovered the Ruy Lopez Archangel when I was 7...  Ah, the best laid plans!

Proper chess, 7, though I was introduced to the game via something called "short chess"  King, Queen, 4 rooks, 6 pawns.  6x6 board. 

Just about to turn 16.

I was 3 years old when my mother showed me how the pieces move, but I begun to take chess seriously like 1-2 years ago, and my elo is already 2000

I was four years old. I can remember first going out and picking out a chessboard in a store. Out of all the other games I could have picked, I picked the right one...

My first post here! I must've been around 10 or so when I learned how to play. 23 years later, I'm still trying to figure out how to get good. 

I'm teaching my 4-year-old daughter how to play. She'll probably start beating me in a few months.

I started playing checkers when I was 5. Then chess when I was 8. It's been 9 years since I learned how to play and I am still learning openings... I just got serious into the game a year ago.
