?

That was surprisingly hard. Technically the program works well, except that it seemed like I didn't succeed in putting in my name.

Seb_Yo

Thanks for the feedback Superzaldor. Do you mean that you were unable to enter your name (i.e. the letters weren't showing up when you typed), or did you enter successfully but were then called 'anonymous' on the leaderboards?

The_Ghostess_Lola

From quote #1 board ?....I can actually see a checkmate in 2. Can anyone else find it or is it just me ?....Good Luck !

shell_knight

Fun.  First try was 19.  I got 50 after a few tries... some were sneaky like the one where you promote a pawn away from the action... just didn't see it over there.  Also a few had more than 1 mate in 1... and that froze me up (figured out any mate in 1 is accepted)  Then they start to repeat and as long as you don't screw up on a tricky one like that it could go really high.

I kept wanting to see an arabian mate or epaulette mate, but there are none it seems Frown  There's a huge list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkmate_pattern

It would really help for training if you had at least a few of each type.

As for really good players doing it indefinitely... if you wanted to start making them really hard use non-game positions with odd random pieces scattered everywhere and the more checks, the harder it will be to find it in just 10 seconds.  There was some mate in 1 featured by a Polgar that took me ~5 minutes to solve... don't make them that hard (then it's a memorization game to get the high score)... and have it so those don't come up until later or something because that's not really helpful for training, just a challenge to people who want the high score.

Great feedback, thank you shell_knight. Getting a database of puzzles is the biggest challenge at the moment since I don't want hundreds of reallyobvious queen and king mates etc. Currently I've written a script to fetch mate in one positions from FICS, but I then have to manually reject all the lame ones. So it's really a bit of a chore :/ I guess I should set up some criteria so that the computer can determine which ones are challenging, e.g. number of checks that don't lead to mate.

Yeah I've seen some of those composed mate in ones, crazy stuff! Might throw in a couple of the more 'reasonable' ones to trip people up as you say.

LoekBergman

It still did not work out unfortutenately.

Seb_Yo

All right well thanks a lot for trying Loek, I appreciate it.

eatchipss

great game really enjoyed it, its highly addivtive aswell.

for patzers like me the 10 secs go soo quick, maybe you could make a 15 second and even a 5 second option for super strong and weak players alike.

thanks

Hard but good. Dunno how MSC got such a good score.

Scottrf

Most frustrating game ever.

My pleasure. Yes, the letters didn't show up at all. It worked now when I tried it again, though.

I also think that the game would be a lot more useful to more players if you could choose the time to solve the problems. If you want to keep leaderboards, or even statistics for all tries by all players, you could have your own pre-determined options for time intervals, instead of a box where you can type in the exact that you want.

Good luck and keep it up.

Scottrf

A move back option would be nice.

I don't think they are the same person.

Scottrf

I hate this puzzle!! Every time!

Auto pilot for this score, a glance was enough. Amazing how quickly you can learn the problems.

Scottrf

I'll settle for 300. Just let the time run out in the end. Nice software and variety. Some are quite difficult to spot.

Looking at the screenshots of your other games, you seem talented.

shell_knight

That's the equivalent of solving a mate in 300 right?  And only took you 20 minutes maybe?

bossboy2002

probaly in about 5 seconds in 1400 uscf

rbjones999

Fun, though I stink at it... too slow. The linux version works fine for me, btw. Would be great if you had an option to change the time allowed per puzzle. Nice job!

SJFG

It's very nice, but it needs more problems.  I like it for pattern recognition.

At first I tried it and got around 6 or so.  Then I tried it and got a few more.  And the next time a few more.  And then I'd seen all the problems and it was merely remembering them.  I kept going until 366 when I mouse slipped Sealed

If you had a bunch of problems it would be very challenging.
