How safe is it to go to tournaments right now? I'm sure most have heard of the Coronavirus outbreak currently (now with more thatn 60,000 cases and 1,115 deaths), and a recent Ebola Virus outbreak in Congo. But mostly, there is some fright about going to tournaments (like the one I'm going to this Satuday in Dallas) because of a recent increase in the Flu in the United States. How safe do you think it is to go to a big tournament right now with these conditions?

Agreed. After a quick search, there are 0 coronavirus cases so far in Texas.

You could try taking a supplement like Airborne and getting plenty of rest before the trip so your immune system is in top shape.

There's always heightened risk of catching the flu this time of year in the US, but it doesn't seem to be worse than any other year.

So you haven't been anywhere outside since the coronavirus outbreak? Why is going to a chess tournament any different?

I think you have a better chance of being kicked by a bull.

But he doesn't live in South USA. He lives in Tuvalu, according to the flag next to his name.

Very unsafe playing chess tournaments in Tuvalu. He could be hit by a falling palm tree branch or bitten by one of those man-eating turtles that inhabit that island.

Devoured by a man-eating turtle... it's a slow and painful death!

chess.com once again serves as the best source of information during an epidemic.

I wonder what the prize fund is for a tournament in Tuvalu? What do they use for money there... big rocks with holes in them?

autobunny

what is of value in tuvalu?

He is actually from a small island near Russia.

Even worse.

Are you sure that's not a giant turtle? They move at 80mph in Tuvalu. Always look both ways when stepping out of the tournament hall  . . . . . . . . .
