How to be GM in one week?
Bad answer. I don't like "no man"s . When there is a will there is a way. Lemme tell you, I have a will.
Its easy. 1. Bribe FIDE for a GM title. If that doesn't work, 2. Claim that you're a GM and say that you refuse to play such puny 2500s, and if you are not allowed to claim total domination of the tournaments, you will sue the organizers.
Great responses!
@ post 4, that actually aint such a bad idea
@ post 5, no idea what you are talking about. Pretty sure that is loud and wouldn't follow the rules of a tournament
@ post 6, yeah, there is some merit to what you are talking about
@ post 7, now that's an idea!
@ post 8, Yes
@ post 9, I'm cheap (no bribery or hiring of a lawyer)
@ post 10, hmmm I'm seeing a recurring theme
@ post 11, Yep.
I have a tournament in one week, my first tournament, and I want to win every game. The only way I could possibly win is by either using an engine on my phone, or by intimidating everyone with a title. NM, FM, CM, and IM aren't too intimidating titles but GM is quite a statement. My only way to win is to intimidate everyone and make them forfeit their games against me. So, how does one get a GM title quick?
If you're around 1700 here and you're playing in an OTB Swiss Tournament, where you'll be listed as USCF unrated, your first game should be against roughly a person with an average rating among all the players. After that, in each round you'll be matched up with players with the same or nearly-same record and you'll keep getting about the avg. rated guy in that group. Depending on the avg. level of play and a little luck, you might do very well!
Good luck!
Turns out my school doesn't have enough players for Varsity, so we are all playing in the JV (highest rated was 1400 last year)
oh yeah. I wanted to share with people and YOU are just the guy I was thinking of...
"Dear prospective GrandMaster!
We are most pleased to hear of your impressive pledge to obsess on chess. You will certainly derive many hours of pleasurable intense study as you strive to 'work your way up the ranks' of talented and impressive players. While one cannot say what might be achieved by motivated and intense study-- One stands in the awe of the illustrious career of prodigies that have surpassed talented chessplayers that have spent a whole lifetime of study-All in their Early Teens. so we congratulate you and welcome you into the sport- and if we are a bit gruff; but we all honestly know- that at any time- a determined and passionate improving chess player could overwhelm even the best of us."
please appreciate this deeply personal insight about your future success....
