How to be good at Blindfold Chess?

Top Grandmasters play blindfold chess like Alekhine, Capablanca, Carlsen etc. I want to be like them, their skills in blindfold chess was spectacular, rare people could do that like Capablanca playing against Jaime Baca Arus. So what are their secrets? Haha

You probably will never be like them, but you can still master your ability. I don't know, maybe it helps to play a lot of chess. At least it helped to me. Especially on the internet. I can imagine a 2D board in my head.

Thank you for your opinion! Hehe

I'm not good at that, but there are specific visualizatione exercises.

* First of you need to be able to recognize immediatly the color of each squares ( f5 is white or black?). You need to fire our imemdiatly!

* then, given 2 squares you should know if they are on the same diagonal

* then fiven a knight position you should easilly get where he can move

After all than you can start making some visual exercises with some pieces. A good free isite is this one:

http://chesseye.alexander-fleischer.de/

It starts with all thos exercises. When you are good enough then you can start with simple mate in 1 with few pieces.

I think its a good starting point.

Play a chess program blindfold. Set the level to the lowest and try to beat it that way. That is the best way. Find those chess programs with voice announcements, like Chessmaster (the best one).

Not everyone can do it. Or do it well enough...No matter how much you train. It is very, very time consuming as an exercise. It may not really benefit your chess play as well.

Carlsen and other top GMs can play this whole forum blindfold and still win most, if not all. That is the difference between them.....and us.

It requires a really strong memory and a very clear vision of the board as well as good health physical fitness. There are dangers to blindfold Chess Alexander Alekhine use to play around 45-55 boards he had wicked migraines and so did Harry Nelson Pillsbury.

The human mind isn't built  like Deep Thought it can take only take so much strain and pressure continually straining the brain pushing it hard without let up can cause a hemorage (bleeding) a life threatening condition requiring immediate medical care at a hospital.

That's why Masters who do blindfold exhibitions are cautious about how many boards they play and they don't do these as often as regular simuls.

It could work by message here for three players. Where each play one another and the one not involved, monitors the moves. So you play two games and oversee one game.

Blindfold isn't really going to improve your chess. If you still want to, then go for it.

If you're having trouble playing BF chess ?....just take it off. ‘Cuz if your opponent is wearing one too, then they'll never know you removed yours.
