Try being British! Everyone hates us, we'd be on our own.
It's really only people from other European countries with whom the UK fought wars over several centuries, as well as third-world nations who were forced to be part of the Empire who have a generally poor opinion of England.
I am reminded of a comment British MP George Wigg made in parliament in opposition to something Churchill said 1949: "I recently had the opportunity of speaking with some Burmese gentlemen, and one of the things they said was that they never realised until they came here and met ordinary people, what the British people were like. They thought we were all haughty and arrogant. The honorable gentleman and his friends think they are all wogs. Indeed the right honourable member from Woodford (Mr. Churchill) thinks the wogs start at Calais."
I want to add Philippines to the list as well. I know exactly what the OP is talking about.
