How to deal with insults.

Hi. It's very offensive when someone writes down bad things during a game. Now i understand why people turn off a chat. I was accused of using chess engine and they say that i'm a moron and other bad stuff. First of all i think chess.com should ban such words and if someone writes them then he/she should have a warning and if it repeats then account should be banned. What's your opinion?

Your handle is "Omega Doom" and you're hurt when someone types "bad things?" LOL.

Tactical_Knightmare

They already have a word filter, then people will jsut sidestep around the filter to insult people. Best thing is to disable chat or grow thicker skin. It is annoying, but is what it is.

The_Ghostess_Lola

Treat insults w/ outsults & Band-Aid bandages....the purple Barney ones.

charles_butternucker

Disable the chat. It's what the pros do.

What associations do you have with it?

Disabling chat is not an option. I can do it after bastard had stated his bullshit but mood is spoiled already.  I don't understand people who accuses others of cheating whithout any evidence. They just want to relish their ego. Maybe we need to report such people somehow.

Elvisandro. What have made you think so?

You do realize you said in your original post that "chess.com should ban such words", which I'm pretty sure those words would be included.  If they start saying such things during a game, ignore them.  If they're a sore loser, they're a sore loser.   Besides, it's much more preferable dealing with it on a computer than having to put up with them in real life during/after a game, because you can practically ignore them if you want to.

It's true but it wasn't personal. I don't mind such words unless they have been said specially to insult me and i suppose it's the same for everyone.

Filter is great but it must have vast abusive vocabulary. Words like moron should be there.

My reply to an abusive comment:

"My apologies, I did not know I was playing with such an intellectual gentleman and good sport."

Gets 'em even more pissed off that they lost...

My opinion is that you should thicken your skull a bit so the words will stop piercing it so effectively.

Most people who throw insults via a keyboard would never do so in real life. It tells me, though I'm no expert, that they're lacking in something other than manners.  The other aspect of course is that if they're getting 'wound up', getting angry, spiteful or call it what you will, it only works against you if you let it. So don't. The anger they feel hurts themselves more than a person they want it to.  Just laugh at them, they're probably inadequate.

If you're best rating is 1290, I doubt why anyone would wrongfully accuse you of using a chess engine- just saying...

You can also disable chat in the middle of the game, but if you decide to rematch the player you have to disable it again. I always find it fun throw a barb in after someone loses it and then disable chat to encourage some rage...then lets them talk trash again during the rematch and do it again. lol.

Remember when that woman slapped Captain Jack Sparrow acrozz his face on that dock ? (....oooh, if I could only do that to some of those bigmouths....)

Or, in the case of parents, angry that their child lost.  I have had several experiences with facing children who were playing in tournaments with adults twice or three times their age, and after beating them I get confronted with angry parents, often demanding to know why their child didn't win.  Thankfully, this is not the majority of parents, but when it does happen it can be terrifying.  Several times I have been the one yelled at, and in one case the tournament director had to intervene with the threats of disqualification, and only then did the parent (in this case, mother) back off.

In my case, there are 11 year olds who are at 1800 level, whereas I am at the the 1500 level. They always win and act like they're the best thing ever despite the fact they have been playing 2 years and I have played half a year. Makes me wonder what will happen when I finally beat them.
