How do I get better? Been stuck at 12-1300 for over a year. People I play don't make blunders and I look for forks/skewers/etc but never see anything obvious to do. Sometimes I feel like I move just to move and I know that's wrong. Please help!

Youre not taking advantage of tactics trainer, or chess mentor.

I need to pay for those, right?

As a free member, you get some of each, each day.

Increase the difficult of the tactics puzzles you solve. But from time to time solve easier problems. Study the other aspects of chess like endgame and strategy.

What if you can't find a tactic? What should you do? This is where your strategic knowledge comes in. So also study strategy and endgames.

Try chesstempo.com for tactics training. If you can get a tactics book, get one. Try watching some kingcrusher's youtube videos.

Thanks for the advice guys, what membership do you all recommend purchasing and if I do purchase something, what should I take the most advantage of? Honestly I've never tried to train I just use this site for playing games, I am now realizing this is not the way to get better..

Thanks for the advice, do you personally use chesstempo.com? If so do you feel like it helps you improve?

Personally, I only tried it once. But it is a good training. I used books for tactics training.
