I got past it by sniping my opponents with tactics. You could say I adopted the attitude of a tactical sniper.
How to most past 1700
Thanks for all the help. And if you're wondering I picked my username because I like doing tactics and I like snipers. Hope you don't have a problem with it. Oh and by the way I don't think you've ever played a bullet game.
Thank you for the serious reply. That is what everybody says, but I feel like I execute a fair number of tactics ( I should do more ) I move at blazing speed, I only premove recaptures, but I lose so dang often!
I'd say you have a good record against good players. I'm not into bullet, I suck enough at blitz, but I think if you play too many games in a row against different players on your level, whatever the time control, it's hard to score even 50% in that session. Maybe you do something like that often?
Speed chess is all about intuition. Thus the more you shapen you're chess skills, the more you will make better moves. Like mmg said, "bullet is about predicting you're opponents move, and responding with a fast good move" (I paraphrased what he said)
hey fred... my advice is simple. find the correct openings for your style and comfort zone. however pick openings that are positionaly sound.no crap lines. play these openings exclusively until you are fairly experienced with them. also of course endgames, pawn and pawn with rooks most importantly. good endgame technique will add hundreds of points. good luck.
Get better at chess in general, then you'll be able to recognize better moves instantly.
Playing "faster" only helps if you're taking too long. If during your games you're able to stay on pace for a ~40-60 move game then there's no need to speed up anymore. In fact going faster will make you play worse.
Thanks 010 etc... and CI that's good advice and I think that people who are rated a little lower at bullet can still give advice. ![]()
Some thoughts...
My strategy for the opening is:
Don't castle too early, because then your opponent will attack right there; like a pawn storm. Your opponent knows this is a short time control, and they will take the chance to attack. Defending an attack can also be time-consuming.
Play a safe opening so you can play it fast, then you will already be ahead in time for the opening.
Endgame is also good to know as others have mentioned.
Also, try to set up mating patterns in the middlegame because your opponent is likely to be moving fast and they could miss an obvious mate.
Bullet....
I used to be a 1100. I improved and hovered around 1500 for quite some time. Then up to 1600 and finally 1700 about a month ago. Since then I have bounced around the 1600s and low 1700s. But I can't move much past 1700. Please, if you had a similar stall around 1700 and got past it, please tell me how.
