Hello, chess players!

I am wondering how I should play against the frensc defense. I often play 1. e4 and e6 is pretty common move. Is there a easy way to play against it with wite? (I don't play it with black so I don't know the opening very much)

There are many ways to play against the french.

The easiest is by far, the exchange variation because you hardly need to know any theory.

You can play a somewhat dull game, I do believe this type of play gives black just as many chances to win as white has though.

You said easiest though :P

Just place your pieces where you think they go. A lot of the specifics you can learn later.

French is basically 1 e4 e6 2. d4 d5

Black tries to put pressure on white's d pawn, usually with like ..c5 and ..Nc6, Qb6, etc. Main idea for white players is to try protecting your d pawn while developing in a more-or-less natural way.

I play the French but I'm really not that good at openings in general, so take what I said with a grain of salt :P

The King's Indian Attack is a good way to play against the french defence.
It will be probably unknown for your opponent, or he will be simply less prepared than you. The easiest way is of course the exchange variation, but it equalizes the game. Black wont have any problems, you wont have any advantage.
