Hey guys,

last month or so, I immediatly ordered the "revised and expanded edition of a chess classic" - "Endgame Strategy" by Shereshevsky, when it was published. I enjoy it so far and it is not the first endgame book I study with. However, it is the first book on practical endgames. Now I wonder, what the best way in terms of effectivness and efficeny is to study this book or similar ones that focus on giving the reader a better understanding of certain concepts instead of memorizing i. e. theoretical endgames.

Up until now, I have been putting the positions on my physical board and playing through the different lines, repeatedly if necessary. But since the many examples are rather compact, I wonder if "just" playing through them is enough. This could lead many people to just going through the book in a matter of weeks and I somehow doubt, that this is "THE" way to really comprehend the content (at least for the majority of readers).

If you enjoy the book's content and it takes a matter of weeks to get through it, it seems fair reason that you will comprehend the material. Just go through at your own pace until you get the understanding.
