Huge down swing - 350 rating points in two days

So as the title says, I have lost 350 rating points over the last two days. I have been grinding since May and have been steadily getting better on an almost daily basis. A few days ago, I was at 1500-1550 (I play mostly 3min Blitz), playing good. But for some reason, now I can't stop blundering pieces and missing easy tactics. I feel kinda helpless and it's getting hard to me.

Did anyone endure the same experience, or do you have any ideas on what's wrong with me and how to overcome this?

It's happened to me a couple times.  Usually, stepping away for a day or two helps.  When I'm on a losing streak, my mindset changes from "make quality moves" to "must win the game" and that is not a good frame of mind to have.  Personally speaking.

You can alternate between rapid games on some days and blitz games on some days, to maintain a healthy mix of being able to calculate far ahead and being able to manage time well.

But for now, I suggest taking a short break (like what EBowie has noted), to clear your minds from everything.

Good point

that is funny. you sound exactly like me and I was going to post same. I get up to 1400. then fall way back and claw back up again. I notice when I really dial in first on the game and less on clock..i see it all better. throw some longer games in there that you have to win or lose solely on skill.

also shorter games lead to bigger swings. I'm near my all time high in 1 min. games..but every 3rd game I run into some Aristotle of blitz and wonder how are ratings are even remotely close.

Agreed, this helps a lot. The only reason people have losing streaks is (to quote @EBowie) is that their mindset changes to "must win the game". I realize this fits exactly into my own experiences, where I lose 50+ points until I finally calm myself down. Later on, I see that I just didn't care about what moves I made and that I played very fast because I was frustrated.

+1 for @EBowie wink.png
