Everyone "hurting" the openings they have an actual chance of playing well and understanding at the sub-2400 level, and "healing" the semi-slavs, KID's, and Benonis that even GM's struggle to comprehend and play well.

I have noticed that. I stopped playing things like that and my games are much easier. When my opponents play them they usually sit around and do nothing since they can't deal with the space disadvantage. All you need to do is prevent thematic pawn breaks and they seem to be out of ideas.

It's like when my friend started playing the Najdorf. I used the "inferior" line 6.a4?! and he, being unable to push b7-b5 later in the middlegame, found himself with no real counterplay.
