I think that the stronger you get you'll run into more and more people who understand the basic concept of the openings you play, even if it's not in their own repertoire. So I'd concentrate on technique and understanding, and do learn the most important variations of the lines you do play. Widening your repertoire will take away from your precious study time without imroving your skill much, only your knowledge.

Hey Guys... I am a 1800 fide rated player and need some suggestion.
should I Prioritize the repertoire or improve my technique first? My aim is to reach 2000 tin a year or so.
I don't get much time to study, I can make 1 hour of study a day so I am just wondering if some experience players can help me in setting up priorities or help me in creating a study schedule.
1.d4 is my favorite move as white (though I am working on King's Gambit these days). As black, I play King's Indian against 1.d4 and Sicillian against 1.e4
At my ratings I feel problem in getting much out of opening and some times gets into trouble in certain lines.
Thanks
