solve at least 5 chess puzzles everyday and play chess. if you don't have an otb opponent, practice playing here at chess.com. play at least in 30 minute(or more) time control.
I am a horrible player at chess and is going to a tourment in January help!!

I am playing to go to the nationals and chess is the thing i mostly play

If you can spell ches proply,and listen to everyones advises, you won't loose many at the tourment.
