@ hypocrism,
thanks! i realise how important tactics are now. i will give more priority for tactics than for endgame now..
@ mottsauce
i will try get the amatuers mind first then if i am not reaching the 1400 mark within this year.
Thank you!
Don't put off endgames completely, you'll get a lot of extra half points if you know the difference between a win, a draw, and a loss in certain endgame positions. And you'll use your tactical knowledge to simplify to the right endings, of course.
hi gzthompson,
i thought endgames should be mastered first until i came into this forum and reading about people always stressing on tactics. so now i will read tactics then endgames. endgames will be priority 2. tactics priority 1!! so i am still giving importance to endgames..thank you for ur sharing ur views...
i am downloading fritz 10 now. i am not sure how to use the analysis and the find blunders thing. will get back to u all if i still have problems. Thank you all for ur wonderful support.
i am taking it easy. just learning little by little...so i can only go one at a time really...just do tactics on the bus, train and while at home. it keeps my brain active and also builds my chess skills. then read chernev's logical chess and pandolfini's end game...i am not so serious now..but in the future, i might be good enough to play competitively. i am also thinking about applying for a chess club at a community centre near my house.
You should go with logical chess and chess tactics. Tactics is the most important to start off with. Those two will help you most at your level. Then as you get stronger (1400+) try silmans book and the endgame book.
And just read ONE BOOK at a time!
The problem with learning endgames first is that if you don't have some knowledge of basic tactics, you'll never get to an endgame! this is a huge problem of mine: i'm terrible at endgames because my wins/losses are usually due to a blunder on my or my opponent's part.
reassess your chess is more advanced than amateur's mind (i've got both). amateurs mind is the one to start out with for sure. helped me get over my 1800 block because i learned how to plan. which is hard.
