The best way to improve is first ask yourself.."Why am I here?" Then you may uncover the reasons for wanting to beat someone at a game of chess, do you have a desire to hurt people? Does checkmating a fellow chess player make you smile? Maybe you are a terrible person who never shall achieve enlightning, such as I have. I have hope for you however, the need and desire to make people feel bad for a while is something that disturbs me. Maybe you are losing games because you hate yourself and feel you need no victory? Playing like a horrible version of Nakamura, perhaps you have some good qualities after all, allowing yourself to taste defeat could mean you may yet care about your fellow chess players, I must beg you to look into yourself furthur. Why are you doing this, why do you need to hurt peoples feelings? Ask and you shall find the answers, they lie inside your dark soul.

thegreat_patzer

your wierd IM.

have you ever thought that you played a great game of chess, so your opponent would have a good lesson about how to play this game better?

just as an alternative way of looking at the game.

The_Ghostess_Lola

He's not weird at all. He's trying to find one's deepest underlying motivation for playing chess.

Have you ever played chess not to win but to draw ! & strived to create complex interesting postions ? Treating winning as secondary is a beautiful thing. IOW's, you're trying to find the artistic-expressive side of chess....where noone feels hurt & dissatisfied w/ the result.

Have you ever noticed that almost all the best games in history seem to be like this ?

IM's right on the golden buzzer on this one.

thegreat_patzer

IMHO, the "best" games of chess are ones that seems like a Tie- but with creativie pattern-recognition, one side realizes that he can create a startling and forced win, from practically nothing.

often from from a startling sacrifice.

that, then becomes a lesson in the complexity and subtle nature of weakness on the chess board.

I see that as the point of a chess game.  not as an insulting ego-trip, but as an expression of artistic vision like you are saying.

and more proof of this is that while draws happen everyday- wins excite people and are remembered for years and years--- the evergreen game, the immortal game.

these are wins not draws.

There's some philosophical stuff to think about indeed. Well, I guess as a lot of player I play mostly to win, but playin to draw can be interesting as well!

This thread over and over. Let's be honest, why would anyone want you to improve? We play against you.  Your improvement is someone else's performance loss.

Why would we help you? I'm certainly not biased towards you rather than the people out there you'll be playing against.

I have no desire to see you improve, if anything I hope you don't improve and get stuck. This is the logically consistent view to hold.

Najgrunfled hasnt answered my proposals, I think I will adultnapp him.

IMtheEaterofworlds

The op has asked a very interesting question, but this question must be looked into deeper. Why are you playing this game? The desire to hurt someone and make them feel inferior? Win or lose the question will always be there lurking in the back of your brain. Did you allow yourself to lose? Did you somehow feel a tad bit of pity towards your opponent who squandered his queen, and you allow a clock to countdown, ticking off the final few minutes of a game that will be around forever? You have to find your reasons, inside yourself first. Why do I play? Why did I lose? Why not accept a draw? How do I feel as I complete a game I should know better, because I will lose this game, Is that right? You need to find reasons for victory and reasons for playing this game first, The long road to improvement is actually waiting for you afterwards look inside you, see you for what you really are. Love you or hate you, You must be satisfied with the answers, then the road to enlightment is ready to be traveled.

In plain English, it means that Carmen Electra's boobs are less fake than you.

U talk too much, but u are so scared to play a match with me and be humiliated by a 13 years old. U are simply jealous buddy, its not my fault, but stop trash talking and hating me chum.

Yes, you're probably better than IM pfren, but you're not 13 years old. So straighten up & knock it off.

nice.

I think this IM guy has a point about you.  you want everyone to be stuck and/or weak- so you get the easy game.

spaghettiOh. that's heartless.  its a given that people will struggle, but why look for the easy game?  the idea is to get to the point of mastery of chess; almost no blunders, deep positional understanding, careful and constant vigilance against tactical game-winning (for him) moves.

"play the pieces."  is a phrase one gm said.  whats wrong with that idea? and if your truly playing to improve your chess; do some mentoring- do some coaching.

its good for your heart, and its good Your chess as well....

this dark, I hope everyone fails so I can constantly win- this narrative isn't necessary to become a good chessplayer; I think.

Uhohspaghettio1

It's not "heartless", it's the only position that isn't inherently contradictory.

You're heartless and selfish, for refusing to accept reality as it is and instead describing things to your liking, what you feel would be nice.

It is important to always be coherent and stay loyal to the truth. As for the rest of your incoherent babbling I have no idea why you decided to throw that stuff in there.

I was at 1300 in standard (15|10), I purchased diamond, went thru "first opening lessons for black" module.. as i was really bad with black.
Then I noticed after 6-7 days, my black was really too strong against the players rated around me.
Then I tried "First opening lessons for White"
Also I tried some other popular opening moves and tadaa! i was 1700+ pretty soon.. and my best win changed to 1800+.. [actually it is 1900+.. but my stats do not show that because that game was an unrated one]
I slowed down because of school work load after that.. so I dont know my actual strength in 15|10..
This probably means even one stage (or whatever we can call it) of the game can make you stand back.. way back than your actual strength.
So, first observe your weakness (in my case it was opening game) and go thru simple lessons and videos over it and you will be fine.

Sorry if my english was bad :p
Good Luck :)

Improve the reasons for playing, so....Find your reason. Look inside you, the teachers are waiting for you when you have happiness and purpose, first...First you must find your reasons.....The mind will open up afterwards....Teachers are waiting, the Classic teachers, Kasporov and his counterparts, Bobby Fischer and even Magnus if you can even begin to understand him..BUT, you must understand you first. By the way, so you can understand me, I once was a 577 player on here not that long ago..I will achieve 1000 very soon, then who knows?
