It isn't PC (or even legal) to hit kids these days... that's why we hear so many parenting and problem children isuses.  In the good old days, a good spanking would have cured his son quickly and effectively.

People who have to resort to hitting their kids are morons. Truth hurts.

Not all change is good. <-- This statement is truthful, unlike yours.

You have the argumentative skills of a 5 year old. Maybe I should beat you, that will fix it.

I posted a truthful fact and you hold your own unprovable opinions as truths.  It is pretty obvious who's lacking in adult thinking.

Additionally, you want to beat a fellow forum member when it'll not contribute to the debate just sound way off the deep end.  Perhaps you were beaten and abused as a child... and I wouldn't doubt that it's affected you negatively based on what I read here, BUT that doesn't mean all spanking is bad.

think about it.

There have been countless studies on the negative impact of hitting children, this isn't up for debate lol. "truthful fact"? lol You barely have a grasp on the English language. It's gotten to the point where I equate people who think hitting kids is an acceptable thing to do with climate change deniers. Here, i'll give you just ONE of the many studies around this topic, since I know typing things into a google scholar search bar is a bit complicated for people like you https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/10926770903035168

The thing that might be more sad is that you took a post from someone with a pepe the frog clown hat picture seriously where he lists a bunch of Ben Finegold quotes lol.

Weird flex but ok. Anyways, who should I let him watch? Agadmator?  GJ_Chess?

you aren't funny at all. I'm not trying to bring you down. I just want to let you know before you try to be funny in front of someone you're trying to impress.

Never mind, @GJ_chess isn't someone you should look up to.

In my personal opinion, I don’t find agadmator a good analyzer. He only says basic tactics my cat can see. Other than that he just plays through the game pointlessly. Not sure why he is so famous.

cuz most people only look that deep, but his channel is important for showing people who don't know too much theory the nice ideas people have.

when handling 1 child is already a challenge, handling 2 may not be advisable.

it's okay, as I'm assuming English is not your first language.

Indeed, although I don't think that's the reason why I though he was serious, nowadays people just cite anything thinking it's actually true, my aunt does that all the time with Facebook publications.

On the off chance the original poster was seriously in search of advice and not a troll...

Sportsmanship is a huge part of chess.
You need to model that when you lose by being a good sport and not stealing his tablet. He was right to call you out. And you need to stress the importance of it when he is rudely winning. Refuse to play when he gets too rude and cocky, and let him know that you only want to play with a gentleman. It's the most basic requirement for a game to happen.

The other thing I'd say is that it's your job as a parent (and adult) to do what your son cannot -- be mature and regulate your emotions and not let his taunts bother you. If you go through life bickering with him, you aren't acting like dad, you're acting like a friend he is fighting with and operating on his level.

Fwiw - I taught a chess club of 120+ 9, 10, and 11 year-olds. One child in particular comes to mind. He was a bad start in September and a great sport in June. His chess playing only improved incrementally, but we gave him a medal at the end of the year for best sportsmanship. Biggest accomplishment of the year in my mind...

Anyway, good luck.

I am a single father teaching my 9 year old son chess. Two weeks ago I searched on YouTube for "chess grandmaster lecture" or something like that and I saved a playlist of this guy named Ben Finegold and told my son to watch them.

Now this weekend I had some free time with my son, we played a couple of games and he kept being sassy with me, roaring, or making the sound of an explosion when playing c4. He got me with an opening trap and got very rude for no reason, saying "checkmate with advantage" and the truth hurts over and over again and constantly talk over me too.

I checked his YouTube history and saw that his behavior was encouraged by this Benjamin fellow. I understand he is trying to be funny for his sad little class but now I had to be the bad guy and take away his tablet. I thought he'd cry but he just said something about being suspicious and buying a book to cry like a grandmaster, don't know what that means. What am I supposed to do?

this is just a silly phase he is going through. trust the universe.

who in a sane state of mind would take Ben gold dust seriously?
