tho i do agree that its possible to beat someone like carlsen i also think it would jusbe insanely improbable. for a no name guy tobeat the best player in the world right. and to come right out and say that u know u can beat him...that is what i think is redidulous.even the best players in the world dont know for sure that they could beat him. and also for the game against Tal(that is crazy impressive by the way.hesprobably my favorite player of all time.) that was at a simul game. im sure if u jus had one game u vs him i think he would still probably win

It is hard to know just how strong Carlsen is, because he is putting just enough effort into his games to beat his opponents, and doing this gives him his current rating, so he may actually be stronger than his current rating. Someone playing computers gets a rating but it is not the same thing as a rating acheived by playing world class competition. As to getting to be world champion from an amateur adult with no current rating, and winning every game you played, I've wondered how you would do that myself - what would be the minimum number of tournaments you would have to play, and how long would it take? BTW one of my friends as a youth in England wanted to become a top player, and he succeeded, but he took a careful choice of intial tournaments, got to play in invitationals against GMs, and avoided playing in tournaments with the one other player attempting the same thing that might beat him at the time (Nigel Short).
