Let's see if we can hit surreal.
i can't escape chess but i must!

I have the perfect video in mind but it involves an interstellar VW and a star lady in a non-family-friendly way.

I have defeated countless addictions before (World Of Warcraft, Table Tennis, Facebook, Youtube, Fast Food...). I did it for the sake of more important things in my life (currently, those are grades at school). When I feel like I've had enough, I start to avoid those things that I'm addicted to. I find some less-time consuming or less addictive activity (in my case - origami, sudoku, reading). If I still try to go back to what I'm addicted to, I try to prepare myself psychologically then. I go to the forest, to the church or any other calm place where I could get my mind clear. Sounds strange, but that actually helped me out. When I return home, I don't even think about any activities when I have, so called, "clear mind". That's what I did to get rid of my addictions. Wish you best of luck on your fight against chess addiction and in your family life :-)
Why don't you go on a vacation. Go camp with your family where there is no chessboard or game in a radius of 1000 miles! Leave it and spend time with your wife and kids!
i've got a chess vacation planned for later this year.
