I Can’t stop Losing Bullet Games On Time!

For some odd reason, I peaked my rating at a low 800, then after that I now am starting to get better.. then BAM! My rating falls hard to the ground at the devastating 100 rating. Embarrassing I know. I cannot stop losing on time, when I got my highest rating (that was low) I was moving quick and winning on time most of the time. But after that one day I couldn’t stand making moves that I knew were bad, and I only started moving when I thought it was right. Though this doesn’t seem to work out for me of course. I am going to stop this, but my question is if anyone has tips on time management? Thankyou!

Don't play bullet lol

Why are you playing bullet though? It’s not for you…yet. Focus on some rapid and learn some basic chess strategy first, and then try it out.

With the faster time formats right state of mind is in a bigger role than slower ones, thats what Ive found. Its much easier to tilt in bullet than it is in rapid for me. It is what it is, you need confidence to play good bullet. Thats why I play these formats very casually and dont care about the results, but put my effort in rapid.

That being said, going from 800 bullet to 100 seems crazy to me lmao. But again, don't worry about it, bullet doesn't reflect your actual chess ability.

I recommend playing rapid for now

“Real” chess is so much more fun. Take your time! As a coach I can attest that bullet harms players’ skill and does not provide long-term enjoyment of the game. I’m sure there are exceptions for higher rated players, but they’ve earned the right to “play around” with chess. Trust me, the slower stuff is remarkably more fun!

The best way to improve is to learn from those who are better than you. For example, start with this guy: wink

If you must play Bullet then just play 2-minute Bullet (2/1 time control)...at least there you have *some* time to think, and the risks of timeout are less...

If I was trying to lose on purpose, those are the moves that I would play.

Do what you think

You're not ready for bullet, I think. It's played by people who are already good at longer time controls, so they need to think less.

I have bad experience in bullet too. I tried to win on time by making some random pre moves in opening and ended up making blunders....my opponents saw it and took benefits from it

I usually play 30-second bullet. It's just a bunch of premoving and there are no tactics involved, just some luck.

At the end of the day, it’s not about rating, it’s about enjoyment, right? If it’s making you unhappy, don’t play it. If you’re enjoying it, go for it.

Agreed. It is better to learn chess before trying bullet. Because in bullet you have no time to think and at 800 rated you usally dont have what it takes. What I mean is that you might end up wasting a lot of time because you missing the experience and dont know the moves. So like if you learn chess better then bullet will be way easier to get used to. I think a good goal should be to hit at least 1500 in Rapid before going for bullet.

Hey guys, it took me about two days, but I got my ELO back around where it was before, I’m certain my rating dropped because I did not know about moving even when you are not sure. Though I do think it is cool I got about 700+ ELO rating in 2 days, I am now even going to advance to Elite League by accident. Anyways, Thank you all for responding, and goodbye! Unless someone has something to write back!

Alright. You need to solve puzzles to train your intuition, allowing you to notice tactics quicker. Also, play unconventional Openings so that you can catch your opponent off guard.

Thank you for the tips! My puzzle rating is 2200 but I will try to get it up to 3000!
