You can imagine that you draw a 2x3 rectangle with the knight in one corner. A possible move can then be viewed as moving the knight to the opposite corner. Regardless, I do believe it is worth identifying your learning disability to be able to find concrete strategies for chess. It may be weak working memory, or weak spatial reasoning, or neither.

I mean do you actually have to move in the l shape? Is it against the rules?
If you're asking when moving the knight itself has to actually physically move in an 'L' shape as you move it the answer is no. As long as the 'L' shape is achieved in its final resting place you can handle/move the knight any manner you want ('cutting the corner' diagonally works for me)
