Poor parenting prevented me from learning self discipline and good work habits. In short, I'm both lazy and stupid through no fault of my own. Clearly I shouldn't be held to the same standards as those fortunate enough to have chosen better parents...
I feel that I deserve a higher rating

Now people turn around and say its my fault for not achieving a higher rating and I say, yes, I agree - if I had not already done everything to achieve a higher rating, but have not therefore it is the system that is broken.
You mean, apart playing better chess ? It's very simple : you "feel" that you play like a master, but you do not, hence the disappointing rating.
I could as well "feel" that I can flap my arms fast enough to fly, then complain about the law of physics for not letting it work.
This type of argument is illogical. Daydreaming about becoming x or y was never the question.

You are daydreaming about being good at chess, or better than you really are. So I guess it is at least part of the question.

Anyone who hasn't figured out that PerfectIdiot is only baiting conversation with his stupidity should adopt his dumbass Rasputin avatar, change their handle to PerfectIdiot 2, and worship at the temple of stupidity. You deserve the rating you have. To paraphrase my countryman Neil Young, get a kinder, gentler, machine gun hand, light a candle rather than screaming at the darkness, and pray for better rating days ahead. You certainly deserve better than what you have got.

I was reading around and discovered that honorary titles are possible. Can anyone shed any light on this?

You need to be a titled player in the USCF or FIDE, and achieve that title over the board, in order to gain that title here, I think.

15 pages of people falling for obvious trolling, from a guy with a silly name and avatar, even...wow...I really thought Chess players would figure something like this out a lot quicker...

I feel I deserve a lower online rating, but I expect with more games time will tell. Maybe I should start a thread complaining my rating is too high and wonder why this web site has not yet set my rating to what I feel it should be.
You are a nice guy I think but please don't hijack this thread. I am interested in finding out about honourary titles. I thought this subject fit very nicely into this threads topic.

I hereby bestow upon FN_Perfect_Idiot the honourary title of Chess Expert based on the Escher rating scale. (Up is down, down is up, and nothing is as it seems at first glance.)

It seems that you don't really care about how good your rating is in comparison, just how big the number is. Well, you could install the UserScripts add-on to firefox and write a small script to multiply your rating by 3 (client-sided). Will you then be happy, seeing 2000 on the screen?
isn't that gravity ?
Yeah, exactly ! Gravity is too strong, I demand it to be reduced ! Can't you see the system is broken ?
