I finally understand why I need to do puzzles

I always considered puzzles a waste of time and no fun. But...

First I learned all basic mating patterns and now I am doing puzzles per pattern on the easiest level possible.

Amazing how often I miss mate in one or mate in two as soon as it’s a bit off my beaten track.

So that is what pattern recognition is about. Very very useful.

That's my favorite like "intermediate ", trap/trick to this day. I can usually always s make something out of it.

I also love the origin of it. A Greek gift means : a gift given or a favor done with a treacherous purpose. Which fits perfectly with the trap.

I've had puzzle-like combinations come up in my own games... even in OTB tournament games.

Nice!

And you have the game in your head or database, even it’s 1982.

I want that 😃. No serieous, it will be step nr 3:

1. Learn all the basic mating patterns and make notes for them (done);
2. Practice them daily on the easiest level possible (doing);
3. Add actual game positions to my notes per pattern as examples (plan).

From the game I played right after my post. Kudo’s for the first one who can name the mating pattern :-)
